Michael Saylor Explains How to Invest Like a Billionaire, and Why Bitcoin Passes the Test

Michael Saylor says Bitcoin passes what he calls the Bernard Arnault test, a rule he uses to decide whether an asset deserves serious money.

The Strategy executive chairman posted the argument on Monday in a short video clip on X, urging followers to think like a billionaire before committing capital.

Saylor Puts Bitcoin Through the Bernard Arnault Test

Bernard Arnault chairs LVMH Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, the luxury group behind Louis Vuitton, Sephora and Tiffany & Co. The company owns 75 fashion and cosmetics labels. Forbes ranks Arnault 11th in the world with $142.3 billion.

Saylor borrows the name as shorthand for buyers at the very top of the wealth ladder. His test turns on a single question about future demand.

“Bitcoin passes the Bernard Arnault test. The Bernard Arnault test is this: I have a lot of money, what should I invest it in? I should buy something that someone richer than me, smarter than me, and more cultured than me will want to buy from me in ten years,” Saylor said.

That framing steers investors away from cheap bargains. Instead, Saylor wants capital in assets that a wealthier buyer will still chase a decade later. He has pushed similar logic before, recasting Bitcoin as stored monetary energy.

Arnault has never endorsed Bitcoin, and LVMH holds no disclosed position in the asset. Saylor treats him as a stand-in for durable taste, not as a crypto backer.

Strategy’s BTC Stack Sits Just Above Cost

Saylor has run that 10-year clock for six years already. Strategy made its first purchase on Aug. 10, 2020, taking 21,454 BTC at $11,652 each.

Bitcoin traded near $77,313 on Monday after a 20.8% gain over the past month. The asset still sits roughly 39% below its record high of $126,080, set in October 2025.

Strategy now holds 840,447 BTC at an average cost of $75,385 per coin. The recent rally puts that position about 2.5% above water, or close to $1.6 billion in paper gains.

The firm has not kept every coin, however. On Aug. 10, six years to the day after that first buy, it sold 1,690 Bitcoin at $64,262 each to defend its STRC preferred shares, which trade below their $100 par value. Those coins left the balance sheet days before the rally began.

MSTR stock erased a two-month loss last week as crypto equities climbed.

Critics remain unmoved. Peter Schiff, the gold advocate who founded Euro Pacific Capital, told investors to sell Bitcoin and Strategy stock this month as gold topped $4,400 an ounce.

Saylor has also floated a $12 million forecast for a single coin. His Arnault test, therefore, asks readers to price Bitcoin on 2036 demand rather than this year’s chart. The harder question is who those future buyers turn out to be, and whether they arrive with luxury money or leave the bid to the same holders already in the trade.
