Upwork acquired WorkMotion to expand Lifted enterprise capabilities globally.
Business Plus revenue grew 120% year over year in Q3.
Connects usage through the MCP server reached a $3 million run rate.
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Nov. 2, 2026, Upwork (NASDAQ:UPWK) reported revenue of $186 million and raised its full-year adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) guidance to between $236 million and $240 million. The platform is shifting away from lower-value assignments and toward enterprise clients and artificial intelligence integrations. That shift expands gross services volume (GSV), the total dollar value of work completed on the platform, and supports higher take rates, which is the percentage of transaction value Upwork retains as revenue. Three key takeaways stand out for long-term investors.
Upwork acquired WorkMotion, a global employer of record (EOR) provider, which is a service that acts as the official legal employer for international worker tax and compliance management. The purchase expands Lifted, Upwork's enterprise workforce management platform, by enabling direct employment solutions across international markets.
With that end, today we announced the acquisition of WorkMotion, a global employer of record provider. This dramatically accelerates our roadmap of delivering comprehensive contingent employment solutions to our customers on a global scale.

Upwork's premium tier for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), Business Plus, gives clients access to higher-quality talent and team hiring features. That higher-value engagement pushed average GSV per active client to a record $5,418. The number shows that revenue per client is expanding even as lower-value work leaves the platform.
Business Plus is entering its second full year in market, and in Q3, it delivered 120% year-over-year revenue growth. It continues to perform well ahead of plan, with GSV increasing 132% year-over-year.

The company launched its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, a technical interface that lets artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT connect directly with marketplace talent. Clients and talent use Connects, which are virtual tokens required to submit project proposals, inside third-party AI applications. That creates a new high-margin revenue stream.
Notably, we saw Connects usage through the MCP server grow rapidly, reaching a more than $3 million annual revenue run rate during the quarter.

Profitability remains resilient across operating environments, backed by operational efficiency and monetization tools. The company holds structural advantages in talent scale and global compliance capabilities. And management continues to monitor enterprise integration and pricing discipline as the platform evolves.
At Upwork, we have proven that we can produce strong, highly profitable business results in a wide range of operating environments, and you will see us continue to do this as we move forward.

At the same time, client discovery habits are shifting toward automated tools, which positions the platform to integrate human talent directly into AI workflows over time.
Productive collaboration between people and AI is the future of work, and we're building Upwork to power it at scale.
