IDEXX Laboratories (NASDAQ:IDXX) grew third-quarter revenue 10% to about $1.21 billion, led by an 11% gain in recurring diagnostics sales to vets. Shares rose about 16% in early trading on Monday. Testing demand is doing the work, but the higher 2026 profit forecast doesn't come from it. IDEXX trimmed its margin outlook, so the earnings raise rests on taxes, interest costs, and buybacks.

What It Means
VetLab consumables, the supplies vets use to run tests on IDEXX's in-clinic analyzers, rose 14% and made up more than half of the recurring gain. That's the razor-and-blade model: each new analyzer turns into years of test sales. It's also why flat instrument revenue isn't a worry. Placements matter more than the price paid for the box.
IDEXX raised its revenue range but cut its operating margin outlook, which leaves full-year operating profit about where the old midpoint had it. The $0.25 lift to the EPS forecast leans instead on a lower tax rate, less interest expense, and fewer shares. Those help this year but don't compound like test volume.
The margin cut also points at the fourth quarter. Margin gains through nine months already top the new full-year target, which implies little or no improvement in the last quarter as IDEXX absorbs costs from its CoVet software deal.
What to Watch Next
Watch fourth-quarter operating margin against last year's, since the guidance implies it barely moves. Also watch rapid assay products, where testing volumes fell this quarter and price alone kept sales growing.
