On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 29, 2026, Linde (NASDAQ:LIN) announced record quarterly sales of $9.4 billion, alongside a $425 million restructuring charge to address underperforming operations. Pricing discipline and project execution allow the industrial gas supplier to maintain stable cash flows despite soft macroeconomic growth in key regional markets. Three things management said stand out.

1. Restructuring Actions Target Underperforming Non-Gas Segments

Sales reached record levels, but flat operating margins prompted strategic changes in underperforming units. Management shifted Lincare, its U.S. home care business, into its Global Other corporate reporting group while taking charges to reduce headcount in low-growth regions.

During the third quarter, we recorded a $425 million restructuring charge to better align our cost base and portfolio with market conditions.
-- Sanjiv Lamba, Chief Executive Officer

2. Accelerated Pricing Initiatives Offset Rising Energy and Distribution Costs

Spiking power and freight expenses in North America squeezed local results. In response, management implemented targeted rate hikes to pass increased input costs on to merchant and packaged gas customers.

While the majority came from ongoing price actions, a portion relates to prior and current period inflation cost recovery in the Americas. An acceleration of energy and distribution cost pressures in North America warranted incremental recovery.
-- Matt White, Chief Financial Officer

3. High-Tech Electronics Backlog Expands Long-Term Production Capacity

Demand for industrial gases in electronics manufacturing surged 15%, led by activity across Asia-Pacific and North America. Ongoing investments in high-tech facility projects provide a foundation for reliable long-term volume growth.

We also have approximately $2 billion of electronics projects under construction in the U.S., Korea and China, providing a strong foundation for continued double-digit growth.
-- Sanjiv Lamba, Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Industrial gas demand remains varied across regions globally, yet cash generation remains resilient enough to support both growth investments and capital returns. The company relies on its broad project backlog, contractual price discipline, and regional supply density to protect returns amid macroeconomic headwinds.

The health and stability of both provides us significant optionality regardless of the future macro.
-- Matt White, Chief Financial Officer

Commercial execution and strict cost management remain central to navigating uncertain local markets.

When performance falls short, we act. When conditions change, we adapt. When attractive opportunities emerge, we invest with discipline.
-- Sanjiv Lamba, Chief Executive Officer
