On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 22, 2026, Snap-on (NYSE:SNA) reported flat net sales of $1.18 billion as channel destocking offset industrial gains. Surging diesel fuel costs prompted mobile franchisees to reduce their van inventories, even as demand for auto repair technicians remained steady. For long-term investors, the business demonstrated that its pricing power and operational efficiency shield profitability during temporary channel turbulence. Three takeaways from management's comments highlight the road ahead.

1. Franchisees Reduced Van Inventory to Offset Surging Diesel Costs

Rapidly rising fuel costs squeezed franchisees' operating budgets, prompting mobile van operators to reduce inventory to preserve a cash cushion. Because underlying tool purchases by auto technicians held steady, this destocking reflects a temporary channel adjustment rather than a drop in end-user demand.

The result is that franchisees have built cash. To manage the rising fuel costs without stress by reducing inventory.
-- Nicholas T. Pinchuk, Chief Executive Officer

2. Critical Industries Drove Record Commercial and Industrial Growth

Outside automotive repair bays, the Commercial and Industrial segment reached record sales and profit margins. High demand for custom tools from military, natural resources, and aerospace customers provided a strong growth pillar that offset softness in automotive dealers.

Sales to customers in critical industries rose mid single digits in the period, including robust activity with the U. S. Military, and continued higher sales in general industry end markets.
-- Aldo J. Pagliari, Chief Financial Officer

3. Structural Cost Savings Preserved 51% Gross Margins

Despite lower organic sales volume and raw material inflation, gross margin held steady at 51%. Operational efficiency initiatives, known internally as Rapid Continuous Improvement, generated structural savings that protected core profitability during quarterly turbulence.

Now the gross margin improved 10 basis points to what I consider a very robust 51%, strong despite the environment. it is a real demonstration of Snap-on's resilience.
-- Nicholas T. Pinchuk, Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Fuel price pressures are stabilizing across distribution channels, while demand for technician repairs remains steady. Snap-on relies on its custom manufacturing, brand equity, and direct sales network to preserve pricing discipline. Management is tracking franchisee inventory levels and vehicle manufacturer launch schedules.

The diesel wave appears to have flattened. And our principal markets, vehicle repair and critical industry, are both fundamentally strong.
-- Nicholas T. Pinchuk, Chief Executive Officer

With substantial cash reserves, the company continues investing in product development to protect its market position.

So as we proceed on our path forward, we believe that with our markets and our clear advantages and product and brand and people, we will meet the turbulence and return to our well established positive trajectory throughout the quarters and in the years ahead.
-- Nicholas T. Pinchuk, Chief Executive Officer

Dollar presses 102 as the 10-year yield sits at 5.14% — and October hike odds are only 17%The dollar index closed at 101.99 (+0.20%) on Monday after briefly topping 102.07, while the 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.14% and the 2-year hit 4.774% — yet futures price only about a 17% chance of a hike at the October 27-28 FOMC, versus roughly 90% for December. The driver is a global bond selloff, not a Fed repricing: France's 10-year OAT jumped to 4.84% ~ 4.94% and the OAT-Bund spread widened to 140 ~ 146bp.
