Even after today's sizable gain, it's still not exactly a household name. However, Genius Sports Ltd (NYSE: GENI) is certainly one step closer to greater investor awareness. Thanks to the spotlight that JPMorgan is now putting on the company, as of 11:31 a.m. ET. shares of the sports data and technology outfit are up nearly 8%.

Putting Genius Sports on investors' radars

It's a rarely appreciated reality of the sports entertainment industry, but acquiring and managing the statistical data created by and for sports is no easy task. Genius Sports Ltd makes it much easier, though, supplying leagues, sportsbook operators, advertisers, and sports-based content creators with the information they need to make and market great products and services.

It's not a particularly big outfit. Indeed, with a market cap of less than $2 billion and 2025 revenue of only $670 million, it doesn't catch the attention of most investors.

Investment bank JPMorgan thinks it should be on more investors' radars though, if not in their portfolios. This morning, the firm announced the initiation of coverage of Genius Sports shares, starting them at "overweight" with a price target of $8 that's 26% above the stock's current price. Analyst Samuel Nielsen specifically highlighted the company's strong revenue growth and improving profitability.

Room for more above

Big jumps can often be tough acts to follow. Today's may not be so tough to sustain, however. Aside from the fact that an 8% move isn't wildly overheated, GENI shares are still down by 50% over the past year, and are still nearer April's multiyear low than not, despite the fact that revenue is up nearly 46% through the first half of the current fiscal year.

In other words, interested investors don't need to worry too much about jumping in while this stock's price is temporarily overheated.
