North Korea Denies the Binance Hack, Calls FBI Investigation Fabricated

Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, called the FBI’s probe into the $6.3 billion Binance hack a “political provocation.” Yonhap News Agency reported her remarks on Tuesday.

She also said Pyongyang is “closely monitoring” the situation. Hours earlier, state news agency KCNA called the theft claims a “fabrication,” Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, US agencies are still asking exchanges to block wallets tied to the stolen funds.

FBI Investigation Details on the Binance Hack

Attackers drained Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, on October 29. Security researchers call it the largest crypto theft on record.

On October 31, the FBI blamed TraderTraitor. It is the North Korean group the bureau tied to the $1.5 billion Bybit theft in February 2025.

The FBI said the hackers were swapping most stolen assets into Ethereum (ETH). It published linked wallet addresses and urged crypto firms to refuse transactions from them.

Blockchain tracking firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis also linked the attack to North Korea. A detailed Binance hack investigation traces how the funds left the exchange.

Donald Trump Weighs In

So far, the bill has landed on the exchange. Binance has resumed crypto withdrawals after saying it covered about 95% of customer losses from reserves.

In Washington, the tone has been cautious. Speaking at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday, President Donald Trump played down the attack.

“I’m not concerned. We’re learning about it,” he said.

He added that the US did not yet know whether North Korea was behind it. No US response to Kim’s remarks had been reported at the time of writing.

The next test is whether exchanges can freeze the funds before they are cashed out. The recent Bitget hack timeline showed how fast suspected North Korean thieves move.
