Binance’s XRP Scarcity Index Signals a Major Shift in Token Supply

Source Beincrypto

XRP Binance Scarcity Index has dropped to -0.94, its lowest reading since January 2025, signaling that more tokens are now available for trading on the exchange.

The shift marks a sharp reversal from July, when the same index hit a two-year high.

What Is the XRP Binance Scarcity Index?

The Binance Scarcity Index for XRP is basically a measure of how scarce XRP is on Binance compared with its normal/historical levels.

  • A rising or positive index is typically bullish: Less XRP is readily available on Binance. That means less potential sell-side supply. If demand increases, price can move up more easily.
  • A falling or negative index is generally bearish: More XRP is available on Binance. That means more potential supply that could be sold, which can create selling pressure.

According to CryptoQuant data, the index sat at 0.77 in July, its highest level in roughly two years. It has now fallen to -0.94, the lowest point since January 2025. That is a notable swing within just a few months.

Binance’s overall XRP reserves have actually dropped about 20% since November 2024. Still, the remaining coins appear more actively available for trading rather than sitting idle in cold storage.

Analysts describe this as a shift in how existing supply behaves, not necessarily a change in total holdings. Similar swings have occurred before without triggering lasting price moves.

Does the Falling Index Threaten XRP Price?

Increased availability does not automatically mean holders are selling. CryptoQuant analysts note that greater exchange liquidity raises the potential for future selling pressure. The data alone does not confirm that tokens are actually changing hands.

XRP currently trades near $1.55; according to BeInCrypto data, it is up 3.4% over the past 24 hours. The token has still gained roughly 10% over the past month, extending a broader recovery. It also remains up more than 46% over the past year.

Prediction markets have grown more cautious about a fresh all-time high this year. Odds for XRP reaching a record by December 31 now sit at just 6%, reflecting reduced scarcity-driven demand. That figure has slipped in recent weeks as supply data shifted.

Traders will likely watch upcoming reserve and exchange-flow data closely for signs of actual distribution.

Rising supply on an exchange can precede selling, but it can also reflect routine market-maker activity. Crypto markets remain volatile, and current indicators do not guarantee future price direction.

Nvidia's $150 billion buyback landed — and the AI sector fell anyway. That's the signal worth tradingNvidia closed up 1.68% at $228.86 on 28 September after announcing a $150 billion share repurchase authorisation, the largest single corporate buyback on record, while the rest of the AI complex sold off: AMD -3.6%, Micron -2.6%, Meta -4.8% and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index -1.61%. The divergence is not noise. Capital is rotating toward cash-flow certainty, not abandoning the AI theme. With Micron reporting after the close on 30 September, here is what the split means.
