Anthropic Reportedly Signs $35 Billion AI Compute Deal, Strikes Cloud Agreement With Nvidia-Backed Lambda

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, AI company Anthropic has signed a cloud computing agreement worth approximately $35 billion with AI cloud service provider Lambda. Lambda is backed by investment from Nvidia (NVDA). This partnership is primarily intended to expand Anthropic's computing capacity based on Nvidia GPUs to meet the growing compute demand for AI products such as Claude. However, this news has not yet been confirmed by Anthropic.

According to reports, the agreement involves a large AI data center in Nueces County, Texas. The data center is being developed by Hut 8 (HUT), where Lambda will deploy AI chips purchased from Nvidia in the future and provide the related computing resources to Anthropic.

Nvidia plays a major role in this deal. In addition to supplying GPUs to Lambda and holding a stake in the company, Nvidia previously signed an agreement with Hut 8 to secure a portion of the data center's capacity. Under the arrangements disclosed so far, Lambda will utilize these data center resources to build AI cloud computing infrastructure, which Anthropic will then lease on a long-term basis for compute power.

Hut 8 previously announced that its Beacon Point AI data center campus in Nueces County has a total planned capacity of 1 gigawatt. In May and July of this year, the company signed two 15-year lease agreements for 352 megawatts each for the campus, bringing the total base contract value of the two phases to approximately $19.6 billion. The campus is designed according to Nvidia's large-scale AI infrastructure architecture.

Anthropic has been rapidly securing long-term AI compute power recently. With the increasing usage of products such as Claude and Claude Code, the company faced a shortage of computing resources earlier this year, prompting it to aggressively sign long-term agreements with cloud service providers and data center operators.

Just prior to this Lambda agreement, Anthropic signed a six-year compute lease agreement worth approximately $45 billion with Nscale, another Nvidia-backed AI cloud service provider. Nscale will provide Anthropic with approximately 460 megawatts of computing capacity from its data center in West Virginia, deploying Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin chips.

With the finalization of the new $35 billion agreement, Anthropic is further expanding its U.S. domestic AI data center and GPU resource reserves, while Lambda has secured a massive long-term cloud computing order. For Nvidia, its GPUs will continue to serve as the core computing hardware for this new tranche of AI infrastructure.
