AMD Stock Price Prediction: Druckenmiller Boosts Stake, Can Helios and AI Inference Drive AMD to Outperform Nvidia?

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - In the AI chip market, Nvidia (NVDA) remains an unshakable leader. Its CUDA software ecosystem, dominant position in AI model training, and comprehensive layout spanning GPUs, CPUs, networking equipment, and rack systems together form its competitive moat.

However, as the AI industry gradually shifts from centralized model training to large-scale deployment and inference, AMD (AMD) is gaining a new breakthrough. The company's second-quarter data center revenue more than doubled year-over-year, and its Helios rack-scale AI system has also entered the mass production and deployment phase. Meanwhile, billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller's family office established a new position in AMD while exiting certain chip stocks such as Broadcom (AVGO), Micron (MU), and Intel (INTC), further elevating market attention to AMD's growth prospects.

AI Inference Could Become AMD's New Entry Point to Catch Up With Nvidia

If the AI training market has already established a relatively mature competitive landscape, inference may be the next market worth contesting for AMD.

After AI models complete training, substantial computing power is still required to continuously process user requests, generate content, and run AI agents. As AI applications transition from the model training phase to actual deployment, the importance of inference workloads continues to increase.

To this end, AMD introduced the Helios rack-scale AI system. The entire architecture consists of 72 Instinct MI455X GPUs, 18 sixth-generation EPYC "Venice" CPUs, Pensando networking equipment, and ROCm software, covering compute, data transport, and cluster connectivity.

AMD claims that under specific test conditions, Helios can deliver up to 30% more inference tokens per dollar than its primary competing solution. However, as these are internal company test results, real-world deployment verification is still required.

AMD has secured a key group of major customers for Helios. OpenAI plans to bring related systems online starting in the fourth quarter of 2026 and accelerate deployment in 2027; Anthropic plans to use up to 2 gigawatts of MI455X GPUs; Meta is also testing Helios and the next-generation EPYC platform. Microsoft, Oracle, and several cloud computing service providers are also listed among the deployment customers.

In addition to its proprietary GPUs and CPUs, AMD is supplementing its inference capabilities through partnerships and acquisitions. The company is collaborating with Cerebras to develop a disaggregated inference solution, where Helios handles prompt inputs and long-context processing, while Cerebras systems manage the more latency-sensitive token generation stage.

In August, AMD announced the acquisition of Taalas, a company focused on AI inference chips. Its technology optimizes compute and memory bottlenecks in AI inference, and AMD plans to integrate it with Instinct GPUs to build a more complete inference solution.

Why Druckenmiller Chose AMD

Legendary Wall Street investor Druckenmiller is expressing a new assessment of the AI semiconductor industry through his actual portfolio holdings. After trimming his stakes in Intel, Micron Technology, and Broadcom, he chose to rotate capital into AMD.

According to the latest 13F filing disclosed by Duquesne Family Office, a new position in AMD appeared in its portfolio as of the end of the second quarter of 2026, while the positions in Intel, Micron Technology, and Broadcom established in the first quarter completely disappeared. The new AMD position accounts for roughly 0.8% of disclosed assets—a relatively modest size—yet this portfolio rotation has still drawn market attention, as Druckenmiller has long tracked the development of the AI industry.

Druckenmiller made early moves into AI-related stocks in the past, but as valuations in the semiconductor sector expanded rapidly, he began screening targets more cautiously.

Fundamentals for both Intel and Micron Technology have shown clear improvement this year. Intel benefited from a rebound in server CPU demand, re-accelerating its growth, while Micron Technology directly benefited from demand for HBM, DRAM, and data center storage. However, after significant stock price rallies, continuing to hold these stocks means investors must take on higher valuation and cyclical risks.

Broadcom is similarly positioned at the core of AI data center capital expenditures, but following its earlier rally, its stock price and valuation already price in a significant amount of optimism.

By contrast, although AMD's stock price has also experienced a substantial rally this year, the room for imagination regarding its future revenue growth remains larger. Particularly in the AI accelerator and data center CPU markets, AMD is currently in a phase of expanding its market share.

AMD Stock Technical Analysis

Source: TradingView

On the daily chart, AMD closed at $456.75 on August 24, having broken below both its 20-day moving average of $479.21 and 60-day moving average of $507.78. Furthermore, the 20-day moving average sits below the 60-day moving average, indicating that the short-term correction is not yet over. The RSI stands at 42.46, below its signal line of 46.92 and below 50, showing that bearish momentum still dominates. However, as it has not yet entered oversold territory, there is no clear bottoming signal for now.

On the downside, initial focus should be on support around $450, an area tested multiple times during recent pullbacks. If the stock can hold $450 and the RSI reclaims 50, AMD may experience a technical rebound to first test $470 to $480, where the 20-day moving average of $479.21 serves as key resistance. If the daily chart reclaims $479 on heavy volume, the next target could be $507 to $520. Only a further move above the 60-day moving average of $507.78 would confirm that the short-term trend has turned from weak to strong, paving the way for a potential retest of the $550 to $580 range.

Conversely, if AMD closes below $450 on the daily chart, it would indicate that sideways support has failed, and the stock could pull back further to $430, followed by focus on the key round level of $400. Therefore, while AMD still has rebound potential, it is currently closer to a weak consolidation pattern, and it cannot yet be confirmed that a new round of upward movement has begun.
