Apple introduced its next-generation artificial intelligence platform at WWDC 2026, unveiling a new version of Siri rebranded as "Siri AI," marking Apple's official push to catch up with Silicon Valley rivals leading in the AI sector.

Apple announced that Apple Intelligence will power Siri, enabling it to understand user context and application functionality, officially delivering on the Siri upgrade promise made in 2024.

Apple Vice President Mike Rockwell stated that the new Siri is not only significantly more capable, helping users find information and perform more tasks, but also greatly improves the conversational experience by supporting more natural multi-turn interactions and providing detailed, precise answers.

Apple stated that the new Apple Intelligence system, based on Google technology, will be better able to understand the context of user requests.

During the keynote, software chief Craig Federighi stated that this software update will focus on three key areas—AI, performance, and security—significantly improving software and photo loading speeds while enhancing child safety protections.

Additionally, Federighi announced that the next-generation macOS for the Mac product line will be named Golden Gate. It features optimizations to the liquid glass design introduced last year, including a new slider to adjust effect intensity to resolve text readability issues. Furthermore, the system's built-in search functionality will receive a comprehensive upgrade.

Bloomberg stated that, as it stands, Siri AI's functionality does not show a significant improvement over Gemini on the latest Android devices. Apple's goal is clearly to reach a level similar to Gemini, and they appear to be working toward that objective.
