As artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes the technology landscape, investors are weighing software dominance against hardware infrastructure. Choosing between Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) and Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) requires balancing established software recurring revenue with high-speed networking growth.

Adobe provides the creative tools that power the digital economy, while Arista Networks builds the physical networking bridges that allow data centers to function. While both companies benefit from the shift toward automated and AI-driven workflows, they occupy opposite ends of the technology stack, offering distinct risk-and-reward profiles for 2026.

The case for Adobe

Adobe sells software and services for creativity, digital documents, and customer experiences to business professionals, students, and global enterprises. Its core offerings include the Creative Cloud and Experience Cloud, which are prominent within the broader tech stocks landscape. The company maintains an extensive global partner ecosystem to expand its market reach and deliver integrated workflows for content creation and management.

On a trailing-12-month (TTM) basis, revenue reached nearly $26 billion, representing a growth rate of approximately 12% over the previous year. The company reported net income of roughly $7 billion, resulting in a net margin of close to 30%. This steady growth reflects consistent demand for its subscription-based creative and marketing platforms as users increasingly adopt new generative tools.

Its debt-to-equity ratio was 0.6x as of its August 2026 balance sheet, meaning total debt was 60% of shareholders' equity. The current ratio was 0.8x, indicating the company has enough liquid assets to cover its short-term liabilities.

TTM free cash flow for the year reached nearly $10.6 billion, which is the cash remaining after the business paid for its operating costs and capital investments.

The case for Arista Networks

Arista Networks provides cloud and networking solutions for large data centers, campus environments, and routing markets. Its unified platform serves three primary customer categories, including cloud titans, specialty providers, and large enterprises. The company relies on a limited number of large customers that account for a substantial portion of its revenue, and such customer concentration adds a layer of risk to the business.

TTM revenue reached approximately $10.5 billion, a 33% increase over the previous fiscal year. Net income for the period was roughly $4 billion, resulting in a net margin of approximately 38%. This strong performance highlights the company's success in providing high-speed Ethernet switching for the massive infrastructure that supports modern artificial intelligence.

The company is essentially debt-free. The current ratio is 3.0x, indicating the company has three times as many liquid assets as its upcoming short-term obligations.

TTM free cash flow for the year was approximately $5.2 billion, which is the cash left over after accounting for business operations and equipment purchases.

Risk profile comparison

Adobe faces intense competition from large global software and artificial intelligence companies that may lead to downward pricing pressure. Legal and regulatory risks, including potential liability from AI development and global data privacy compliance, are also significant. Furthermore, the company must manage cybersecurity risks such as data breaches or supply chain compromises that could damage its brand.

Arista Networks faces revenue concentration risk because a limited number of large customers represent a substantial portion of its total revenue. The company also relies on a limited number of component suppliers, specifically Broadcom, which makes it susceptible to inventory shortages. Competitive pressure from large vendors and open-source networking alternatives could also lead to price competition and market share loss.

Valuation comparison

Adobe is cheaper based on Forward P/E, which tracks future earnings estimates. The P/S ratio measures market value against sales over the past twelve months.

Which stock would I buy in 2026?

Adobe continues to report solid revenue growth, while Wall Street worries about potential competition from AI. These are legitimate concerns as AI continues to advance, but I would buy the stock over Arista right now.

Arista trades at nearly 45x forward earnings estimates. At the same time, Adobe looks undervalued, trading at 10x forward earnings despite a large user base that is generating double-digit revenue growth for the software company.

Adobe looks cheap, particularly after management said on the August 2026 earnings call that it has over 1 billion monthly active users across all its products. This user base grew over 20% year over year last quarter.

Adobe's shift to offering more free services will be a near-term headwind to revenue growth, but its freemium services now have over 100 million monthly active users, up 70% over the year-ago quarter.

As long as Adobe is capturing a large user base for its software products, it's going to be fine in the long term. Financials will follow users, and Adobe has a lot of them, and that base continues to grow.

Arista is a solid growth stock, as it is enabling the AI disruption that Wall Street is worried could impact Adobe's future. But so far, users continue to lean on Adobe's services, which speaks volumes about its competitive position. I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to buy one of the top software companies at a multi-year low valuation.

Meta's AI bill just hit $145 billion — and it issued a new share class to pay for itMeta reported record third-quarter revenue of $64.60 billion, up 26% from a year earlier, and raised full-year 2026 capital expenditure guidance to $135-145 billion from $130-145 billion. To fund that build-out without touching Mark Zuckerberg's voting control, the company announced a 2-for-1 stock split that hands every Class A holder a new non-voting Class C share. Here are the four lines that matter, the peer group that is being re-rated alongside it, and the bull and bear cases.
