Strategy adds 1,665 Bitcoin, repurchases preferred stock

The company purchased 1,665 BTC for roughly $142.7 million, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday. The latest purchase brings its total Bitcoin holdings to 847,666 BTC, acquired at an aggregate purchase price of $63.95 billion.

Strategy primarily funded the latest Bitcoin acquisition through proceeds from its at-the-market (ATM) offering program. The company sold 1.4 million shares of its MSTR stock, generating approximately $246.2 million in net proceeds. It allocated $142.7 million to its BTC acquisition and used the remaining $103.5 million to support STRC repurchases.

Strategy deployed an additional $48.1 million from its USD Cash balance to fund a total buyback of 1.5 million STRC shares for an aggregate purchase price of roughly $151.7 million. Following the latest transaction, approximately $723.5 million remains available under Strategy’s authorization for repurchases of its digital credit securities.

The company also reported a USD Reserve of about $5.02 billion and a USD Cash balance of approximately $1 billion.

MSTR is down 1.2% following the announcement, with the stock's performance closely mirroring Bitcoin's price movement.

Bitcoin drops below $84K amid broader risk-off pressure

Strategy’s latest Bitcoin purchase comes as the top crypto faces renewed pressure from a broader risk-off move across financial markets.

Bitcoin dipped toward $82,000 over the weekend alongside commodities and equities after US President Donald Trump rejected Iran's ceasefire proposal. The simultaneous decline in BTC, equities and Gold points to evidence of broad-based deleveraging rather than a flight to safe-haven assets, according to a Monday report from crypto trading firm QCP.

QCP analysts also pointed to elevated volatility in Bitcoin options markets and increased demand for downside protection. The analysts added that upcoming US economic releases, including the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index and Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) data, could heighten market volatility.

The market backdrop therefore presents a more cautious environment for Bitcoin even as Strategy continues to accumulate the asset.

“Bitcoin’s recent technical strength faces potential pressure from the convergence of geopolitical uncertainty, macroeconomic data risk and broad-based deleveraging,” QCP wrote.

QCP warned that if institutional inflows weaken amid the broader risk-off environment, Bitcoin could come under further pressure and retest established support levels.

“The outcome depends substantially on the trajectory of both geopolitical developments and incoming macroeconomic data this week,” QCP added.

Bitcoin is trading at $83,600, down 0.9% in the past 24 hours at the time of writing.
