The Euro tumbles against the Japanese Yen on Wednesday amid growing speculation that Japanese authorities might intervene in the FX markets, as most related Yen pairs collapsed to fresh two-week lows, with the EUR/JPY bottoming at around 183.64, after reaching a high of 185.75. At the time of writing, the cross-pair trades at 184.03, down over 0.89%.

EUR/JPY sinks as sudden Yen strength raises intervention alarms across FX markets

During the session, the Japanese Yen also appreciated abruptly against the US Dollar, heightening fears of possible intervention. Analysts cited by Bloomberg commented, “The market remains on high intervention alert.”

Market sentiment remains positive, with most US equity indices trading in positive territory amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.

Oil prices eased somewhat during the day, yet hold firm near weekly highs with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) remaining above the $90.00 threshold on Wednesday.

During the G20 meeting, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he expects Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda to do the right thing on monetary policy, according to Reuters. He defended the Treasury’s action to propel the Yen, saying that extreme volatility could push US Treasury yields higher.

EUR/JPY Price Forecast: Technical Outlook

Chart Analysis EUR/JPY
EUR/JPY daily chart

In the daily chart, EUR/JPY trades at 183.97, retaining a mildly bearish near-term bias as it holds below the clustered resistance of the parallel channel boundary at 184.15 and the grouped simple moving averages around 184.81. The Relative Strength Index (14) has eased to about 43, suggesting fading upside momentum while price remains capped beneath this overhead structure and still trades well under the next key trend-line barrier near 189.44.

On the topside, immediate resistance is seen at the 184.15 channel line, followed by the confluence of the 50-, 100- and 200-period simple moving averages around 184.81, with the higher upward-support trend-line break near 189.44 acting as a more distant cap. On the downside, the main structural floor is the upward-sloping trend-line break level at 174.16, which stands as the next significant demand area if selling pressure resumes.
