  • Nvidia's greatness lies in its ecosystem and ability to anticipate where the market is headed.

  • AMD has been positioning itself for the future of AI.

  • TSMC looks poised to remain at the center of the AI infrastructure build-out.

The artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure build-out is in full swing, and this could be a structural shift that lasts decades. Unlike past technology cycles that run into the limits of human consumption -- like PCs, the internet, and smartphones -- AI has no such bounds, limited only by things like financing and energy consumption.

As such, this is a space that could be ripe for long-term investment. Let's look at three AI infrastructure stocks to buy and hold for the next decade.

Missed AI’s "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our analysts, we’re only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »

Nvidia

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has been a big early AI infrastructure winner, but it doesn't look done yet -- not by a long shot. While the company holds the dominant position in providing the chips for AI model training with its graphics processing units (GPUs), the company's biggest advantages are its ecosystem and ability to move where the market is headed.

Nvidia's CUDA software platform provides a wide moat in AI model training, as most early AI code was written on it and optimized for its chips. Meanwhile, its "acquisition" of Groq and development of Arm-based central processing units (CPUs) have added other powerful chips to its CUDA ecosystem that are important for inference and agentic AI. Throw in a world-class next-generation networking portfolio and important software layer acquisitions around AI orchestration (SchedMD) and distribution (Hugging Face), and Nvidia is transforming itself into the total AI infrastructure company of the future. That's why Nvidia remains a top semiconductor stock to own over the next decade.

Advanced Micro Devices

After getting outflanked by Nvidia in the chip market for AI training, Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) has been positioning itself for the future of AI. This starts with agentic AI. AMD is a leading maker of high-end server CPUs, which are needed to manage tool use (API calls) and handle the sequential logic required by AI agents. It has already developed high-performance CPUs specifically for AI agents and is expected to take a sizable market share in this exploding industry.

Meanwhile, the company has positioned itself for the inference market, with a particular emphasis on managing memory usage and availability. Inference tends to be more about quick access to memory, and its chiplet design allows for more memory to be packaged with its GPUs. However, with memory prices soaring and high bandwidth memory (HBM) in short supply, the company has also come up with other solutions to deal with these issues. This includes its acquisition of Taalas, which has designed chips that hardwire AI models directly onto its chips to speed up inference times. It has also acquired memory optimization company MEXT, which can transfer less frequently used data to flash memory and then transfer it back to HBM before it's even requested, saving costs.

Finally, AMD was looking toward the future when it recently agreed to acquire World Labs, a trailblazer in spatial AI models. This deal positions AMD to become a leader in chips used in robots and physical AI. It's that type of opportunity that makes AMD a long-term buy.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing

One of the companies at the center of the AI infrastructure build-out is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM). It is the world's predominant foundry and a leading manufacturer of advanced logic chips like GPUs and CPUs.

As other foundries have struggled with achieving high yields (few defects) on advanced chips, TSMC has become a vital cog in the semiconductor industry and has become a close partner with chip designers like Nvidia and AMD. It's growing along with the industry while also seeing solid pricing power. Meanwhile, it will continue to benefit from the proliferation of chips incorporating new technologies over the next decade, such as robots and robotaxis.

With TSMC being a winner no matter which chip technologies take share over the next decade, this is a top AI stock to own.
