XRP Breaks Out to $1.4: From $1.10 to $1.40 in Two Weeks - What's the Next Resistance After the CLARITY Setback?

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - If you've been away from the market for the last two weeks, then you missed the massive price jump of XRP from $1.10 to $1.40, even touching the $1.50 mark. XRP's rapid climb to $1.40 has shown just how much macroeconomic shifts, real-world banking utility, and sheer retail FOMO can perfectly align to cause a crypto market pump.

But it hasn't been a completely smooth ride. Behind the massive green candles on the charts, there have been some regulatory challenges. So, how did XRP price pull off this 26% surge? And more importantly, now that the dust is settling around the $1.54 mark, what exactly is the next heavy resistance level standing in its way? Let's dive in.

The XRP Surge From $1.10 to $1.40 in Just 14 Days

In the past two weeks, the XRP price not only went up, it went up big. The price of XRP is rising from its lowest level of $1.10, briefly edging up to $1.65. XRP is holding steady around $1.40 while it's among this month's most incredible rallies.

One major reason for the price pump was XRP tapping into the broader crypto market price pump. The altseason index pumped to its highest level in 2026, with XRP benefiting from the rally to pump to $1.40.

In the same period, there has been a notable increase in institutional investment, who have continued to pump money into XRP. Per data from SosoValue, more than $38 million has been pumped into XRP in the last week, bringing its total inflows to $1.75 billion.

To add fuel to the growing fire, Veteran commodity trader Peter Brandt also posted a long-term XRP price prediction. His long-term target is a jaw-dropping $5.40. With someone of his repute backing XRP, traders listened, causing the XRP options to suddenly see a 25-delta skew of 9.3 points, which is very bullish.

What Exactly is the CLARITY Setback Holding XRP Back?

While everything looked perfectly aligned in the two-week-long pump, there was a major setback in the CLARITY Act. The XRP price pump paused and dropped suddenly back to the $1.30 range at one point, as regulators failed to advance the CLARITY Act.

The CLARITY Act was supposed to be the rulebook to pull the U.S. cryptocurrency industry out of its legal gray area. The Act could have provided XRP with a clear, statutory mechanism to permanently classify the token as a non-security commodity.

Investors were counting on the passage of the Act in the Senate. The euphoric highs were replaced by lows, though, when the much-anticipated crypto bill passed its procedural vote on September 15.

While the overall industry remains in frustrating limbo, due to legislative uncertainty, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse quickly refocused the discussion. He adamantly declared that XRP's hard-won legal footing remains utterly bulletproof.

How the Absa Bank Crypto Custody Launch is Changing the Game

While the CLARITY Act hit a major roadblock, in recent XRP news Absa Corporate and Investment Banking, a financial powerhouse in Africa, quietly launched a digital asset custody service in South Africa. Which is entirely powered by Ripple's custody technology.

This isn't just a fluffy partnership on paper. It provides corporate clients with a secure, bank-grade environment for safeguarding digital assets and managing private keys. It bridges traditional finance with blockchain infrastructure in Africa's top economy.

Add to this the impending Batch V1.1 upgrade for the XRP Ledger coming at the end of September. This isn't a minor tweak. The upgrade allows multiple transactions to be packaged into a single ledger entry. It fundamentally improves the efficiency of institutional cross-border payments and atomic settlements.

It is the exact kind of technological momentum that proves XRP isn't just a speculative token; it's a living, breathing financial rail. Even former Ripple CTO David Schwartz chimed in during a recent X Space, boldly stating that XRP could one day overtake Bitcoin. He believes Bitcoin won't need to shrink, but XRP could grow faster due to its superior transaction speed and functionality.

The Next XRP Resistance Level

With XRP price sitting above the $1.40 psychological level, the XRP army is eager to see what comes next. Based on the technical chart, XRP needs to hold above the $1.45–$1.47 resistance level with incredibly high volume to crack the $1.50 resistance.

Bulls are still on top as long as the price of XRP stays above the $1.47 level. Once the price breaks above $1.50, the next major resistance is at the price level of the recent local high, $1.57.

However, in the mid-term, the resistance level to look at is at $1.70, to clear the pathway to $2. Cracking the $1.7 resistance may pose more of a challenge because there is a mountain of accumulated break-even selling pressure sitting right there.

Trapped investors from previous market cycles are desperately waiting for the price to hit $1.70 so they can dump their bags and exit without a loss. Every single time XRP approaches this zone, it is going to trigger aggressive profit-taking.

Until XRP decisively smashes through $1.70 and closes a daily candle above it, the asset is technically still confined within a broader consolidation pattern. Once XRP breaks above $1.70, we can then say that it has entered a new bull market.
