Amodei calls for a global slowdown in AI development, citing loss of control

Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, penned an essay calling for a slowdown in the development of frontier AI models. Amodei said that he believes AI capabilities are advancing faster than researchers can understand and, critically, control them, referencing several recent incidents in which models demonstrated dangerous behavior and a lack of "alignment" -- an industry term for ensuring AI models act in the best interest of humanity.

Amodei proposed several measures, including embedding independent safety monitors in AI labs. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SpaceX chief Elon Musk, and Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis all endorsed the ideas in the essay -- at least directionally.

A slowdown in AI development would directly threaten GE Vernova's power-equipment demand

As a key player in powering energy-hungry AI data centers, GE Vernova's success depends on the continued growth of the AI industry. If these calls for increased regulation and scrutiny actually lead to any material slowdown in AI development, GE Vernova could be hit hard. Of course, there's no guarantee that will happen.
