AWS and Google Cloud have collaborated to launch a multicloud networking service that enables companies to create a high-speed private connection between the two cloud platforms. The collaboration will combine AWS Interconnect multicloud with Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect.

The integration will create a direct private link, allowing enterprises to move data and applications between the two environments without relying on public internet pathways. AWS revealed that the new service will enable customers to provision connectivity in a short period.

AWS says the integration provides a private failover during disruptions

According to AWS, the collaboration to form a multicloud networking service will allow enterprises to select a dedicated bandwidth option and establish an encrypted, redundant route across multiple facilities. AWS added that the service is designed to reduce manual setup, complex routing configurations, and physical infrastructure, which were previously required for multicloud networking.

According to the Amazon cloud platform, the goal of the service is to simplify how customers connect Amazon VPC environments, AWS Transit Gateway, and AWS Cloud WAN to external providers, noting that it’s the first purpose-built multicloud connectivity service. The collaboration highlighted that the service will enhance performance and reliability for customers operating across various platforms. Currently, AWS’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect service offers private, high-speed connections to third-party environments.

After the recent AWS outage on October 20, services were disrupted across many websites and applications, including Snapchat and Reddit, prompting the need for the latest integration. Parametrix analytics firm estimated that the outage cost the U.S. companies roughly between $500 million and $650 million. The collaboration for the multicloud service provides private failover pathways that enterprises can use to maintain continuity during disruptions.

Salesforce is one of the firms already working with a joint multicloud service to support data movement and distributed workloads across platforms. According to AWS, the service is launching across five AWS Regions in preview. Furthermore, Microsoft Azure is expected to join the program in 2026, expanding cross-cloud connectivity to three major cloud providers.

Google Cloud announced that the integration of its multicloud networking service was designed to streamline infrastructure for customers running multicloud deployments across data-intensive applications, such as AI workloads. The partnership noted that the first time a jointly developed standard for multicloud network connectivity has been made available by two hyperscalers.

AWS releases an open interoperability specification as part of the release

As part of the launch of a multicloud networking service, the collaboration released an open interoperability specification that outlines its cross-cloud networking standards. The specification is publicly available for other cloud providers, network vendors, and service operators to adopt. Amazon Cloud Platform published the specification and support materials on GitHub, together with an open API package that allows other cloud service providers to integrate with AWS Interconnect multicloud in the future.

Customers have previously expressed the need to manage multicloud approaches that involve global multilayered networks. According to AWS, the new service reduces complexity by offering a direct, managed connection between cloud environments. According to Google Cloud, the new service has been integrated with several security and reliability services, including Encryption between edge routers, Redundant connections across multiple facilities, dedicated private bandwidth options, and predictable routing without internet exposure.

The infrastructure is designed to reduce downtime risk and provide stable performance for low-latency workloads. The new service is now available through the AWS Management Console for customers in preview regions. For Google Cloud, the integration is accessible via Cross-Cloud Interconnect.

Amazon recorded $33 billion in revenue from AWS in Q3, marking it the largest cloud provider against Google Cloud’s $15.6 billion.  Amazon’s stock price has jumped 1.77% today, trading at $233.22. Alphabet’s stock on the other hand had maintained a moderate change, trading at $320 at the time of publication.
