Trump Demands Rate Cuts Again! Powell Likely to Resist!

On Tuesday (ET), following April's CPI report, Trump took to social media to push Powell for immediate rate cuts—but will the Fed comply?  

"No inflation! Gas, energy, groceries, and nearly everything else are getting cheaper!" Trump declared on Truth Social. "The Fed MUST cut rates like Europe and China. Too-slow Powell—why wait? This isn't fair to America's comeback. Let it ride—it'll be beautiful!"

This isn't the first standoff: Trump has repeatedly pressured Powell for cuts, only to be rebuffed. The Fed chair has consistently defended the central bank's independence, stressing patience on policy shifts.  

While the Fed hasn't officially responded, veteran Fed watcher Nick Timiraos (dubbed the "Fed Whisperer") noted tariff-driven inflation hasn't yet hit CPI data—hinting policymakers may stay sidelined.
