Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - On June 8, Eastern Time, Apple ( AAPL) officially kicked off its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) in Cupertino, California. This landmark event, widely regarded by the outside world as the dawn of Apple's "AI Era," has captured the attention of the global tech community.

At this final WWDC hosted by Tim Cook in his capacity as CEO, Apple dedicated the entire keynote to proving that it will no longer be absent from the AI era.

The highlight of the conference was undoubtedly the official launch of the next-generation Apple Intelligence platform and the release of a completely reimagined Siri AI.

This voice assistant, built on the Gemini large language model through a deep partnership with Google, has moved away from its previous pop-up design to debut as a standalone app. It features three core capabilities: cross-app operation, on-screen awareness, and personal context understanding. It can perform not only basic information queries but also cross-app collaborative tasks, such as directly pulling photos into emails or generating schedules from notes.

In addition to the comprehensive AI upgrades, Apple announced a unified transition of its major operating systems to the "27 Era," releasing updates including iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. These systems continue the "Liquid Glass" design language and achieve significant performance improvements through underlying optimizations.

Siri AI Reshapes Apple’s Intelligent Ecosystem

At this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple's most significant announcement was the comprehensive iteration of the Apple Intelligence ecosystem. Coupled with the newly named "Siri AI," Apple has implemented deep cross-platform integration for this intelligent framework.

Unlike the previous voice assistant with relatively limited functionality, the new Siri AI features a dedicated application interface, allowing users to use it and view conversation history across multiple devices. On Mac, users can even drag and drop multiple files to request analysis using natural language, offering a user experience consistent with many chatbot products.

It can not only access users' personal information such as photos, emails, notes, calendars, and contacts, but also leverage this data to complete multi-step tasks across applications. For instance, while a user is browsing a photo on Instagram, they can directly ask what the location is, and Siri AI can identify the place and provide relevant information.

Apple repeatedly emphasized that all task executions are subject to robust privacy protection measures. The vast majority of computing will be performed on-device, while complex tasks are handled via the dedicated Private Cloud Compute servers, where data is used solely to fulfill task requests and is inaccessible even to Apple. This gives Siri AI a natural privacy advantage in its usage scenarios.

In terms of multimodal interaction, Siri AI's visual intelligence features will launch across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. On iPhone, users can simply tap the shutter button to have Siri identify the screen and provide practical feedback, such as splitting bills with friends or obtaining nutritional information for food. On iPad and Mac, users can search and ask questions visually; on Vision Pro, users can inquire about objects simply by looking at them.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, stated, "Siri AI possesses vast global knowledge, providing the latest answers on almost any topic, while also maintaining on-screen awareness and understanding personal context to help users perform actions across various applications in an unprecedentedly natural way."

Apple also noted that Siri AI will initially support English, with plans to rapidly expand to more languages in the future. However, its first version will launch as a beta test this fall and will not be available in the China and European Union markets for the time being.

Apple Intelligence Partners with Google Gemini

At this WWDC keynote, Apple confirmed for the first time that the new version of Apple Intelligence is the product of a deep partnership with Google.

During the keynote, Federighi revealed: "This year, we have partnered deeply with Google to leverage the technology behind the Gemini family of models to co-create the next generation of Apple Foundation Models."

According to official disclosures, the new Apple Intelligence architecture features a three-tier design: the base layer is a model framework composed of Apple’s proprietary foundation models integrated with Gemini; the middle layer handles Personal Context; and the top layer comprises Siri and App Actions.

This architecture enables the new models to run across both on-device and Private Cloud Compute environments, delivering enhanced reasoning, multimodal understanding, and image generation capabilities.

This disclosure explains why some Wall Street analysts believe Apple’s current strategy focuses on leveraging its ecosystem to integrate state-of-the-art AI capabilities rather than relying solely on proprietary large-scale models. By joining forces with Google, Apple can effectively integrate Google's top-tier AI technology into its ecosystem, providing comprehensive enhancements to Apple Intelligence and the evolved "Siri AI."

Leveraging Google’s vast knowledge base, the new Siri AI seamlessly integrates world knowledge with a user's personal context. When faced with complex queries—such as determining whether a specific model of hiking boots will fit into a particular backpack—Siri can now provide insightful and accurate answers.

An Apple source revealed that the company currently possesses three cloud-based models and two on-device models; the partnership with Google primarily focuses on utilizing its cutting-edge model technologies rather than deploying the Gemini model itself.

Apple Operating Systems Collectively Enter the '27 Era' with Deep AI Integration Across All Devices

Simultaneously, Apple announced a unified upgrade of its major operating systems to the "27 era," releasing a series of software updates including iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.

iOS 27 further strengthens the deep integration of AI functions with the system, with support extending to all iPhone models from the iPhone 11 and later.

Key upgrades include deep Siri integration with system applications, enhanced search capabilities, upgraded AI writing tools, faster photo and app loading speeds, and strengthened child safety features.

Following the "Liquid Glass" effect introduced in iOS 26, iOS 27 introduces a transparency adjustment slider, allowing users to customize the glass-like texture of elements such as the tab bar. Apple also promised that iOS 27 will bring smoother system animations and reduced app loading times.

The new search architecture will also enable near-real-time indexing of new content. Additionally, the Clock app has added a workday (adjusted schedule) alarm, supporting alarms for year-round holidays and adjusted workdays—a feature many users have dubbed an "epic" update.

macOS 27 Golden Gate continues Apple's tradition of naming systems after California landmarks, taking its name from the Golden Gate Strait near San Francisco. The new version focuses on enhancing AI-assisted workflows, Spotlight search capabilities, system performance optimization, and faster file and photo processing speeds.

macOS 27 has reconstructed its search functionality with a brand-new underlying architecture capable of indexing all content on the device and adding new content in near real-time.

Furthermore, the Spotlight search experience in the Photos and Mail apps has been improved. In terms of visual design, macOS integrates classic design elements, unifying the top toolbar and pairing it with a dedicated sidebar and colored icons, resulting in a more organized interface layout and higher operational efficiency.

watchOS 27 adds more health and fitness intelligence features to the Apple Watch and introduces AI-assisted health recommendations. The Apple Watch now integrates Find My functions for devices, items, and contacts, making operations more convenient. Additionally, watchOS 27 strengthens the collaborative experience with other devices, further refining Apple's cross-device ecosystem.

visionOS 27 continues to serve as a key vehicle for Apple's spatial computing strategy. The new version enhances spatial collaboration experiences, multi-window management, AI content generation capabilities, and deep integration with Apple Intelligence. Apple Vision Pro now supports converting panoramic photos into immersive spatial backgrounds, with significant improvements in network stability and speed. Apple Maps has upgraded its Flyover view by combining aerial imagery with AI, providing richer details and a more three-dimensional visual experience.

As Apple's software chief, Craig Federighi addressed the high expectations for Apple's software, stating that the company's focus this year is on improving the reliability and experience of existing features.

He pointed out that an excellent operating system (OS) is often built on the continuous refinement of details rather than just relying on major new features. Apple's presentation style also changed significantly this year; instead of individual system introductions, a unified showcase of new features connected multiple devices and systems, highlighting Apple's trend toward further ecosystem integration.

The Cook Era Concludes: A 15-Year Legacy Marking Apple’s Most Brilliant Chapter

At the conclusion of the WWDC 2026 keynote, Tim Cook delivered his final farewell address as Apple CEO, marking the successful conclusion of his 15-year tenure leading the company.

Cook maintained his characteristic restraint, eschewing flowery rhetoric for sincere emotion, stating: "One of the best moments of being CEO is events like today—sharing new tools with all of you and then seeing what you create with them.
